The winners of the sixth annual Frightfilm Competition were announced in a ceremony hosted by the University of Cincinnati: Clermont College in Krueger Auditorium on October 26th 2024.
The premiere of the 20 submitted pictures started earlier in the day. The Shelly Awards ceremony was held immediately following. The filmmakers represented nine different communities from Ohio, Kentucky and California. The audience was made up of the film-makers, cast & crew, family members, judges and horror film devotees.
More than fifty five industry professionals(twice as many as last year) from across the country volunteered to serve as judges." Said Frightfilm co-founder Bill Anderson. “The judges selected the nominees and winners in fourteen different craft categories.” "
“As always the audience also got to serve as judges”. James Timmerman, co-founder went on to say, “Everyone in attendance had the opportunity to select the Audience Favorite for each of the three groups of films. We had more than 275 people in attendance throughout the day."
Each year, filmmakers are required to incorporate a different three predetermined items in their films. This year the films needed to incorporate a shovel, a Dolly-Zoom camera shot and as always, a line of dialogue from a classic horror film.
Jeff Winkelman, co-founder and host for the evening summed up the event saying, “We had 26 teams register this year with 20 films submitted and a total of 65 nominations. If you want to find a place where film making is alive and growing, come to southwest Ohio."
